Preparing for a lifetime of married love, rather than just for the wedding day, is the focus of the Pre-Cana experience. The spacious grounds, as well as the historic nature of Old St. Patrick Church, provide the ideal setting to focus on your lifetime together.

Couples arrive for the Pre-Cana day arrive in time to participate in the 8:15AM Sunday Mass at St. Patrick Parish; the events of the day begin following Mass and lasts through the later afternoon. The day will include prayer, presentations, couple sharing (the most important part of the day), and dinner.  Topics discussed during the day include Communication, Sexuality, Everyday Living, and the Sacrament of Marriage.

Dress is casual.

The cost for the day is $75 per couple.  To register, please CLICK HERE to download the PDF registration form .  Pre-Cana days fill quickly, please register early; registrations are handled on a first-received basis.

This program satisfies the requirements for marriage preparation as stipulated by the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland.  You will receive a certificate at the end of the day.

**On May 27, 2020, the Diocese of Cleveland issued the suspended the Pre-Cana program – and requested the preparing clergyman to cover topics typically addressed at Pre-Cana.  Here is an excerpt from that diocesan directive:

During the present circumstances of the Covid-19 pandemic, we strongly encourage pastoral initiative, adaptability to individual couples’ needs, and prudent discretion on the part of individual pastors concerning the process of preparing couples for marriage. Typically, preparation for the sacrament of marriage is done at the direction of the clergy preparing a couple at least 6 months prior to date of their wedding. In addition to the canonical procedures for marriage and the Prepare – Enrich premarital inventory, engaged couples are required to participate in a Pre-Cana program or its equivalent.

Until further notice, we continue to recommend that the engaged couples meet individually with the priest or deacon to complete the requirements of the marriage preparation process. Where appropriate, designated Pastoral Ministers or Couple Ministers can also meet with the engaged couples. In order to meet the Pre-Cana requirements, we ask the preparing minister to utilize the session outlines from the Diocesan Guidelines for Parish Pre-Cana Days that has been published as an addendum to the Diocesan Marriage Policy. Due to the unusual circumstances, we will only require four of the Pre-Cana sessions: Communication, Sacrament, Morality and Sexuality.

Given the present climate, the August & September 2020 Pre-Cana offerings are tentatively canceled.  Any applications that arrive for either date will be held (including any submitted funds).    If the Pre-Cana suspension is lifted, all applicants will be contacted and given the option of: participating in a Pre-Cana Day, or; having us shred their application and check.
